Sefton's Vision
"We want to maximize access for all
people living, working and visiting Sefton.
This means developing a transport
system that contributes to opportunities for all by promoting
economic development and maximising access for all, whilst
protecting the environment and ensuring safety and security on the
transport network, and by supporting a healthier life-style through
the development of sustainable transport policies including cycling
and walking."
Sefton Council is the local highway
authority. This means that we are responsible for managing and
maintaining the local highway network, including pavements,
cycleways, street lighting, traffic lights and traffic calming.
Trunk roads and motorways are the responsibility of the
Highways Agency.
We need to plan ahead to meet future
transport needs so we contribute to the
Merseyside Local Transport
Plan, in partnership with the other Merseyside local
authorities and Merseytravel. As the local planning authority, we
also develop a range of transport planning policies, which are
included in the local Unitary Development Plan.
Our responsibilities also include
road adoptions and public rights of way and since 2000 we have also
been responsible for enforcing parking restrictions.
