Homes for Ukraine - May 2023 update

Since the introduction of the national Homes for Ukraine scheme in March 2022, Sefton residents have helped to provide safe housing for almost 300 Ukrainians fleeing war.

Safe places

Over 120 Sefton households have provided safe places to live for Ukrainians fleeing Russia’s invasion of their country, through Homes for Ukraine.

Sefton's team of resettlement officers and the Council's partners have been supporting Ukrainians who have moved to the Borough to ensure smooth integration into all aspects of life in the UK.

‘Thank you’ payments

Also, recognising the financial impact on those Sefton households hosting Ukrainian guests, the Council has been providing top-up ‘thank you’ payments starting from £75 per month. Payments depend on the number of Ukrainian guests being hosted ranging from £75 for households with one guest to £200 for those with six. These payments will continue until October 2023.

A number of the Ukrainian people who have come to Sefton through the Homes for Ukraine scheme have found employment locally and have also moved into their own rented accommodation.

However, the Council is still keen to hear from people interested in becoming hosts  through the scheme.
