The Atkinson The Atkinson,
nspired by the ‘Guiding Lights’ and navigation systems of Trinity House, and the importance of marine history and waterways in the UK’s heritage and identity.

The installation for this exhibition uses the concept of floating navigational aids moored on shifting sandbanks – Light Vessels and Buoys – as a metaphor to explore the states of location and dislocation for individuals and communities, and how we form a connection to ‘place’ and sense of identity – physically, culturally, emotionally and spiritually.

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

On the night before Christmas, Emily stares out of the window, hugs her teddy and waits excitedly for the morning, while in the corner a little mouse called Eddie can’t understand why only humans are allowed to get presents. So he sets off in search of Father Christmas to find out for himself. Along the way he dodges the family cat, gets directions from a cowardly robot and is given some unexpected advice from the magical fairy on top of the tree.

Will Eddie get an answer? Will Emily get her wish? And what is that funny-shaped present sitting under the tree???

The Night Before Christmas is the latest production from Big Wooden Horse, creators of the hit shows Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, The Way Back Home, Monstersaurus and Aliens Love Underpants.

Great for families with children aged 3-7, and perfect for school groups as a Christmas treat.

Dyad Productions: Christmas Gothic

From the creators of Dalloway, The Unremarkable Death of Marilyn Monroe, Austen’s Women, I, Elizabeth, The Diaries of Adam and Eve and Female Gothic.

Christmas: a time to remember the past, celebrate the present, and look to the future; a time of feasts and festivities; of holly and mistletoe; a time of visits and visitations. A time of ghosts.

Come in from the cold and enter into the Christmas spirit as a dark and spectral woman tells haunting tales of the festive season, lighting a candle to the frailties of human nature and illuminating the cold and chilling depths of the bleak, wintry dark…

Following the international touring success that was Female Gothic, Dyad Productions resurrects a Victorian tradition by presenting three seasonal tales of terror to scintillate the gooseflesh for dark Christmas nights.

This dark celebration of Christmas is adapted and performed by Rebecca Vaughan (Dalloway, Austen’s Women, I, Elizabeth, Female Gothic).

Directed by Elton Townend Jones (Dalloway, The Unremarkable Death of Marilyn Monroe)

“A macabre masterpiece. Ghostly, grisly and gorgeous. Don’t miss it” – Three Weeks

“Truly extraordinary… one of the most exciting young performers on the British stage” – British Theatre Guide

“Holds the audience in the palm of its hand… a near perfect piece of theatre” – The Scotsman

“Perfection… Vaughan is simply sublime” – Huffington Post

Why Look at Animals?

This exhibition looks at our relationship with animals. John Berger argued in his 1977 essay Why Look At Animals?, that humanity has lost its contact with nature since moving into town and cities. We now tend to think of animals only as Zoo creatures, pets or food source.

Artists from the early Victorian period to the present day have been aware of this change in perception and this exhibition presents a wide range of responses.
