Section 11 B of the Local Government Finance Act 1992 as amended by the Local Government Finance Act 2012 and Rating (Property in Common Occupation) and Council Tax (Empty Dwellings) Act 2018
At a meeting of the Council on 24th January 2019 and following a period of consultation in November 2018 the Council has decided to adopt changes to the Empty Homes Premium. With effect from 1 April 2019, if a property is unoccupied and substantially unfurnished for more than 24 months, then an additional 100% charge will be imposed. This means that 200% Council Tax will become payable on the empty property.
For the period ending 31 March 2019, an additional 50% charge will be imposed which means that 150% Council Tax is payable.
