Joint neighbourhood walkabouts key to tackling anti-social behaviour in Sefton communities

03 July 2026

Behaviour Week to help make neighbourhoods safer and stronger.

On Monday 29th June, Sefton Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) team, local councillors, Merseyside Police and other partners have been taking part in community walkabouts as part of Anti-Social Behaviour Week.

Chance to share experiences

On Monday they were joined by the L30 Community Centre took in Netherton’s Marion Square. The walkabout was a chance for residents, businesses and young people the chance to share their experiences with those working to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area.

A mobile police station was based in Marion Square throughout the day, providing crime prevention advice and offering bike marking services to help reduce theft and protect property.

Impact

Residents and business owners were encouraged to explain the impact anti-social behaviour has on their daily lives. Young people were invited to share their views and ideas about what could be done to improve the area.

Anti-Social Behaviour Week is a national campaign aimed at raising awareness of the effect it can have on communities. By working closely with local partners and communities, Sefton Council wants to build a clearer picture of the challenges people face. This will help identify the most effective ways to tackle them.

Similar events have taken place this week, in Maghull Square on Thursday 2nd July and in Crosby town centre on Friday 3rd.

Positive feedback

Cllr Liz Dowd, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Partnership Engagement, said: “Feedback from these walkabouts has been positive, with many residents welcoming the opportunity to speak directly to council staff, police and community organisations.

“We will now review and analyse the surveys completed during the day and will use the information to help shape future work and support a targeted response to the specific anti-social behaviour issues highlighted.

“These events show the importance of our partnership approach to tackle anti-social behaviour.

“By listening to local people and encouraging open conversations, we want to continue developing real solutions that help create safer and more welcoming communities across Sefton.”
