It’s 2026 and this week marks the start of 'Make a Difference', a national campaign to attract people to careers with local councils.
Making a Difference in your community
The aim of the campaign is to inspire people to try careers that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of local residents.
With over 800 different types of roles, local councils provide essential services that residents rely on every day, including adult and children's social care, planning, environmental health, finance, IT and more besides…
Helping your community is only one benefit of working for your local council, you can also grow your career with lots of training and development opportunities and enjoy flexible, inclusive work practices.
If you want to know more about working for your local council, the Make a Difference website has a host of inspirational staff stories from a variety of local councils across the country.
