Five weeks of earthworks begin on Marine Lake Events Centre site

The latest stage of works for the new Marine Lake Events Centre (MLEC) in Southport has now begun.
Following the completion of sheet piling and capping beams earlier this summer, the Local Authority’s contractors DSM Demolition Ltd have moved into their planned earthworks phase.
Nearby residents and businesses have received letters alerting them to the works, which started on Saturday, August 16th.
The works will see more unnecessary natural materials removed from the land to lower the ground level ahead of the installation of a piling mat.
Expected to take around five weeks to complete, the vital works precede the construction of reinforced concrete retaining wall next to the adjacent Waterfront Hotel.
This will mark the final phase of DSM’s on-site operations, with completion anticipated in October 2025.
Cllr Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Skills and Employment, said: “While some noisy and dusty activity is unavoidable, we’re working hard with our contractors to minimise disruption to those who live and work near to the site.
“Such is the nature of these works, there will be an unavoidable increase in heavy goods vehicle (HGV) movements along the Promenade and Lower Promenade.
“The Marine Lake Events Centre, once completed, will host a huge range of entertainment, business, and cultural events, attracting thousands of visitors and delivering significant economic benefits to the town, Sefton and the Liverpool City Region.”
