Online Book of Remembrance provides 24/7 memorial to loved ones

08 June 2026 3min read

Sefton Council’s Bereavement Services team is reminding people in Sefton that they can join the many already making the most of the 24/7 online Book of Remembrance.

Hosted by the Thornton Garden of Rest and Southport Crematorium, the physical book memorialises loved ones with personal inscriptions.

Visitors to the crematorium can ask staff to turn its pages so they can view a friend or loved one’s entry.

An online version is available around the clock, where any page can be viewed at any time.

Book of Remembrance pages are regularly scanned to update the online version so that all friends and family can view entries online, regardless of where they are in the world.

Available at thornton.alwaysloved.xyz and Southport.alwaysloved.xyz, viewers can select any date, with new entries into the book uploaded within 12 months.

Schedule change

The reminder about online viewing comes as times for the physical turning of Book of Remembrance pages are altered.

Visitors will still be able to ask a staff member to turn the book’s pages any time during weekday viewing hours (8am to 4pm).

This service will also be available for Father’s Day, Mother’s Day and Christmas Day.

Page turning will not be available on weekends and public holidays outside of the above.

Cllr Peter Harvey, Cabinet Member responsible for Bereavement Services, said: “We know how important it is for people to pay tribute to their loved ones, which is why the Book of Remembrance is a proud part of our bereavement services in Sefton.

“Due to lower demand for page-turning during weekend and public holiday visits, we have made some changes.

“That being said, physical page-turning will remain during key holidays, including Father’s Day, which we will mark with a special service at Thornton Garden of Rest this month.”

More information about the Father’s Day event, which is open to all from 12-2pm on Sunday 21 June, is available on the MySefton news page and www.sefton.gov.uk/thornton-gor.
