Sefton Council backing National No Smoking Day

10 March 2026 1 min read

Sefton Council is once again supporting National No Smoking Day on Wednesday 11th March, encouraging residents who smoke to take the first step toward a healthier, smoke‑free life.

This year’s themes – “Quit and Win” and “A smoke-free life starts with a smoke-free day” – highlight the real and immediate benefits of stopping smoking, even for just one day.

Single best thing you can do

Cllr Mhairi Doyle, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said:  “Stopping smoking remains one of the single best things you can do for your health and every year, National No Smoking Day inspires people across the country to quit the habit.

“We are encouraging residents to take advantage of local support services, available from www.smokefreesefton.co.uk or by calling the team on 0300 100 1000.”

Personalised plan

By listening to smokers, Smoke Free Sefton can provide them with a personalised plan and help them work towards their goal of becoming smoke-free.

Smoke Free Sefton agrees that switching to vaping can be a beneficial step that deliver smokers nicotine without traditional cigarettes’ harmful tar and toxic chemicals. To make quitting easier, Smoke Free Sefton uses Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) and specialised medications can help to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

Do-able

Cllr Doyle added: “National No Smoking Day is an important reminder that with the right support giving up smoking is do-able. A smoke‑free life really can start with a smoke‑free day.”
