Sefton's Community Learning Hub has been given approaching £700,000 to improve the education services it provides for local residents.

Sefton Council is investing £100,000 in the next phase of the hub. This is in addition to £580,000 provided by the Liverpool City Region as part of a £2 million strategic investment fund granted to Sefton Council for important local projects.

What’s Being Improved?

The Community Learning Hub, which is in Waterloo, will benefit form a range of upgrades, and improvements. These will include a new community café, a new lift to improve accessibility and a new boiler and better heating system.

There will also be better IT systems, security cameras, and safety features, measures to make the building more energy efficient and some improvements to the building itself.

Why It Matters

Cllr Marion Atkinson, Leader of the Council said:

"Our Community Learning Service already provides invaluable support to local learners. This funding will help us to build on that support and set it up for the challenges of the future.

"It will also help us to build on the recent transformation of the hub in Cambridge Road by making it an even more welcoming and accessible space for the local community, with new opportunities for learning and community support"

Sefton Community Learning Service has something for everyone. Courses are open to anyone aged 19 or over and include digital skills, English and maths, creative arts, health and wellbeing and family learning.

Many are held at the Seaforth Hub. Support is available for learners with additional needs, and free refreshments are provided.

Cllr Atkinson added:
“It’s a great way to take the next step in your personal or professional journey as well as  meet people and try something new.”
