Salt and Tar’s July Social puts the spotlight on young people

Bootle’s Salt and Tar venue is back with another family weekend of free entertainment and shopping on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July. And this time it’s with a twist as all the market stalls will all be run by young people.

Young entrepreneurs

Organised with The Teenage Market, the event will see young people from Sefton and beyond be selling a little bit of everything over the weekend. Products will range from homeware to jewellery, so there’s something for the whole family.

As well as market stalls, local performers and popular food outlets including The Bus Yard and Tipple n Cheese will be there.

The event will take place from 12 noon to 6pm on both days.

The Teenage Market is an organisation that gives young people a free platform to showcase their creative talents.

Local favourites

Salt and Tar will also be open to the public from 4-9pm on Friday 26th with food and drink available from its regular vendors. Lock and Quay will return for the weekend offering local cask ales, while The Cocktail Apothacarium has plenty of fresh cocktails. And Ginger Cat Coffee will also return, alongside C&C Cakes.

Councillor Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Economy and Skills said: “This month’s marketplace is a fantastic opportunity for young people to showcase their entrepreneurial skills.

“Salt and Tar, though being relatively young itself, has quickly become a huge success. It’s seen crowds from all across the UK and even overseas.

“We have ambitious plans for the future of Bootle town centre, and young people are at the forefront of those. We want to make Bootle a town they’re proud to be part of, and one which caters to their needs as they grow.

“Supporting our young vendors this weekend will give them invaluable experience in the business world. They are the next generation of leaders and business owners and events like this will help them to progress. I encourage everyone to come down and see what they have to offer!”

Bootle hotspot

There will be plenty of entertainment across the weekend as well, with Gals Who Gig taking over the main stage on the Saturday along with performances by young talent such as local dance group Attitude.

Salt and Tar is a brand new, outdoor venue space in the heart of Bootle. So far, it’s been home to highly popular events including an international festival, Comedy Weekender and a sell-out performance by local legends Red Rum Club. Next month, the venue will host world-famous acts including Tom Jones and Status Quo.

The venue is free to enter all weekend and is dog-friendly for anyone who wants to bring along their furry companions.

The Teenage Market is a fast-growing national initiative supporting young people to be entrepreneurial, trial new business ideas and sell creative products.
