Equipment, Minor aids and Mobile Clinic
Equipment and Minor Aids
Minor aids (also known as minor adaptations) are small changes Sefton Council can make to a home to help someone to remain independent.
Some examples of the type of equipment the Council can provide include:
- Grab rails - to help with stability while moving around the house.
- Banister rails - to offer additional support going up or down the stairs.
- Steps - to help reach high cupboards or shelving spots.
- Temporary ramps - to be placed of steps leading up to a front or back door.
- Bath seats and rails - to help get in and out of baths, and to make washing easier.
If you, or someone living in your property, is disabled or is having mobility problems, you can apply for a minor adaptation. To do so, you should request an Occupational Therapist Assessment by calling 0345 140 0845. Someone will then arrange a visit with you to talk about your needs.
There is no charge for minor aids and adaptations in Sefton.
Mobile Clinic
The mobile clinic is a responsive service to Sefton residents who may require advice, basic equipment and adaptations preventing the need for further intervention and maximising independence and safety within your own home.
The mobile clinic is a 5 day a week service, where, following referral a practitioner attends your home on an agreed day and completes a functional assessment. During this visit, they will discuss your activities of daily living and provide advice and signposting. If identified during the visit, equipment such as bath boards, kitchen trollies and perching stools will be provided directly from the clinic van, fitted, and demonstrated to help support you. Our practitioners will be able to complete any onward referrals for adaptations to your home that may also assist you such as second banister rails or external fitting rails.
