There are a host of routes in Sefton, you can find on our Walking Routes page, but you may prefer to enjoy the health benefits of walking while meeting new people or enjoying time with your friends by taking part in our range of organised walks (see below).
Wellbeing Walks Sefton is a partner of the national initiative Ramblers Wellbeing Walks and supports and encourages people to either try walking as an activity that benefits both physical and mental health for the first time or to feel more confident in increasing their activity level by joining free, led, shorter walks that can be easily accessed by public transport or on foot and can be accommodated easily into people’s busy daily lives. Wellbeing Walks Sefton delivers the Wellbeing Walks Programme locally across the Borough.
The Wellbeing Walks programme provides organised, planned, risk assessed, local walks throughout Sefton, which are volunteer-led and follow a variety of routes including woodland trails, coastal paths, canal towpaths, local parks and easily accessible, short walks from local community venues so that people can easily fit a walk into a busy day conveniently.
Walks range from 30 – 90 minutes and are graded so there is something to suit everyone and beginners are more than welcome. There are organised walks going on all year round apart from a short break over the Christmas and New Year period.
The walks are free and there is no need to book a place ahead. You simply turn up following the meet up information given in the Sefton Walking and Cycling Booklet, complete some registration forms and enjoy the walk.
Full details of our Active Wellbeing Walk Programme are set out in The Sefton Walking and Cycling Booklet.

Nordic Walking
This is a fitness walk which uses specially designed poles to enhance the natural walking experience, it burns up to 40% more calories and uses 90% of the body’s muscles. The poles are used to get the upper body moving and to help propel the walker, meaning that the walker works harder than usual whilst walking, yet the support provided by the poles make it feel easier.
