Household Energy Payment

The Government has announced a one-off payment of £100 for certain households to support with rising energy bills. Eligible households must live in a property in a Council Tax band A - D.

To assist councils in delivering this support the government will shortly publish detailed guidance on the delivery of the Household Energy Payment. This will cover the eligibility criteria, payment arrangements, monitoring and assurance requirements, and expectations of the discretionary fund.

Councils are expected to start making initial payments from January 2027 to households who are signed up to pay Council Tax by Direct Debit. If you would like your payment as soon as possible, please register for a My account and sign up for direct debit.

If you’re not sure which Council Tax band your home is in, you can find it in the upper right corner of your council tax bill, under 'Property Band', or you can check online at Check your Council Tax band - GOV.UK
