The A59 Corridor Improvement Scheme has been awarded to Dowhigh Ltd.
Planned Construction
Construction is planned to start on 11th November 2024, with an anticipated completion date of July 2025. However, the Contractor will be undertaking some drainage investigation works in the week leading up to this date so you may some activity along the A59 prior to the 11th.
How will this impact me?
During construction there will be several different footway and road closures at various times as the works progress. Unfortunately, there may be some delay to journey times as a result. Further details of these closures will be posted on this page as works progress, however a brief summary of the roads impacted are outlined below:
A59 Footways – Temporary closures of different footways between Dodds Lane and Robbins roundabout. Pedestrians and cyclists should still be able to use one side of the road or the other depending on which side of the road the closures are on. This is expected to start in November 2024.
A59 Road – There will be a temporary lane closure needed on the A59, either on the northbound or southbound side, depending on the works, for most of the construction time. This is expected to start in November 2024.
A59 Road - A temporary closure of the A59 will be necessary to complete resurfacing works on the road. A signed diversion will be in place and is expected to be near the end of the project in 2025 and for only a very short time. Further details will be posted nearer the time of the closure.
Kenyons Lane (both east and west sides) – Whilst the junction is being re-constructed both sides of Kenyons Lane will be temporarily closed, meaning there won’t be access to or from the A59. The main diversion route during this closure will be via Liverpool Road or Dodds Lane / Eastway depending on which side of the A59 you are travelling. This is expected to start early 2025 until late Spring 2025.
Liverpool Road and Old Lane – There will be short closures needed on both these roads to complete the works on both junctions. This is expected in 2025.
The Council recognise that a scheme of this nature and size may cause disruption for some and would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause you and will endeavour to complete these works as soon as practical.
