Guidance for local areas on planning to deal with potent synthetic opioids

Guidance shared by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) outlines how local commissioners and service providers can prepare for and respond to incidents involving potent synthetic opioids, such as nitazenes or fentanyl.

There are increasing signs that synthetic opioids are appearing more frequently in local drug markets, raising concerns that their prevalence may continue to grow.

Local councils and their partners have been advised to prepare for the potential emergence of these potent opioids in their areas. This includes planning for how they will rapidly assess and understand the risk of any future threat, developing plans in partnership, and responding effectively.

Sefton Combating Drug Partnership (CDP) has devised and reviewed its plan to minimise the potential future impact of potent opioids.
