School Climate Action
Schools can play an important part in supporting to tackle the climate emergency, for example:
- By taking actions to reduce carbon emissions by becoming more energy efficient;
- By taking actions to reduce the risk of flooding and overheating;
- Improving the environment and biodiversity such as by taking part in Forest Schools;
- By providing education on climate and green careers such as via curriculum enrichment programmes or linking back to curriculum linked topics.
To support you to do this a school climate action plan is an important step. Sefton’s Utility and Climate team have produced a guide and resources to help you to do this. It supports the requirement set by the Department for Education’s (DfE) sustainability and climate change strategy for education where they state that “By 2025, all education settings will have nominated a sustainability lead and put in place a climate action plan”.
