Council Housing

In 2023, Sefton Council approved the decision to deliver a modest programme of new council housing within Sefton. The Council transferred all of its housing stock to housing association One Vision Housing in 2006 and so has not directly owned or managed homes since this time.

Work is underway at Sandway Homes’ Molyneux Gardens development at Buckley Hill Lane in Netherton which will provide 18 new council homes, a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments across two apartment blocks. The homes are due to complete in 2025.

As the development and programme progresses, this webpage will be updated.

Existing social housing in Sefton is advertised through Property Pool Plus.

The Social Housing Regulation Act 2023 requires registered providers to appoint a dedicated Health and Safety Lead for the organisation to ensure the health and safety of tenants of social housing. Although the Council does not yet own or manage homes, the Council is registered as a Registered Provider.

Sefton Council’s appointed Health and Safety Lead is Stephen Watson - stephen.watson@sefton.gov.uk. Functions of the role are to:

  • Monitor the Council’s compliance with health and safety requirements;
  • Assess risks of failure to comply with health and safety requirements;
  • Notify the responsible body (Members) of:
    • Any risks of failure to comply with health and safety requirements;
    • Any material failures to comply with the health and safety requirements;
  • Provide advice to the responsible body (Members) as to how the Council should address risks and failures for the purpose of ensuring that the Council complies with health and safety requirements.
