Learning for Good Causes on One of Our Heritage Craft Courses
Our ‘Knitting Traditions - Heritage Yarn Crafts’ group worked hard alongside the charity Knit for Peace, creating knitted squares that were carefully joined together to make warm blankets for people experiencing homelessness.
As well as developing their knitting skills, our learners gave back to the community by sharing kindness, creativity, and care.
Each square represented not only new learning but also hope and comfort for someone in need.
Pauline T and Bernie J regularly attend various knitting groups, where they meet with like-minded individuals who share a passion for knitting, exchanging skills, knowledge, and experience. The groups they attend create knitted garments and blankets for both local and international charities.
They are always grateful for any yarn donations they receive, as these contributions enable them to continue producing handmade items that mean so much to the recipients. Their involvement gives them a well-deserved sense of satisfaction, knowing that their time, skills, and creativity are helping to support others in need.

From Learning to Employment
Paula has always believed in taking opportunities when they arise. She initially attended SCLS to enhance her skills and knowledge to support her childminding role.
Over time, Paula enrolled on several courses across a wide range of subjects. Although she had not originally planned to undertake the Level 3 Award in Education and Training, she embraced the opportunity and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the course. The support and encouragement she received from tutors and staff throughout her learning journey inspired her to develop her confidence and pursue new goals.
Successfully completing the qualification gave Paula the opportunity to apply for a sessional tutor position with Sefton Community Learning Service. Since then, she has gone on to teach a wide variety of courses across different curriculum areas, sharing her knowledge, skills, and passion for learning with others.
Paula is a strong advocate for lifelong learning and encourages others to make the most of the opportunities available within their local community. Her journey demonstrates how learning can open doors, create new opportunities, and lead to rewarding new chapters in life.
